Tribute to Paul Cezanne
I studied Paul Cézanne’s The Gulf of Marseille Seen from L’Estaque (1885), a landmark work often regarded as a forerunner to Cubism. Its structural clarity and geometric simplification helped lay the foundation for modern art. Picasso himself acknowledged Cézanne as “the father of us all,” a tribute to the profound influence Cézanne had on the generations that followed.
My own composition pays homage to that legacy. Created from four 16 × 20‑inch canvases framed as a single unified piece, it echoes Cézanne’s commitment to form, balance, and the quiet architecture of landscape. Each summer, the work is placed in the kitchen, where its colors and structure usher in the season with a sense of brightness and renewal.
